Open the Gate, Open Your Mind

I have postponed (procrastinate is a harsh word) a long time to begin blogging again. Today is a new beginning. Today is the day!

I love to write and I love to try to help people even if only in some minute manner. As time passes, it seems that it becomes more and more difficult to help people. I know the statistical information, mental illness numbers are increasing, which I have heard year after year. Is it true? Working in the field, I have witnessed it first hand. However, does it have to?

I am a firm believer in self-help and holistic health care. To be healthy, we have to be healthy all the why down to our tiny cells within our bodies. The powerhouse of our cells, the mitochondria, have to be given the ultimate opportunity to function at an optimal level. How is this achieved? Diet, Diet, Diet!

I recently listened to a healthcare provider who stated that a person only has so much serotonin within their body and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are only able to redirect what we have already onboard, so to truly increase serotonin levels and therefore our moods, decreasing anxiety and depression, we have to eat serotonin boosting foods. Most of the serotonin found in your body is in your gut (intestines). According to Cleveland Clinic. (n.d.), approximately 90% of serotonin is found in the cells lining your gastrointestinal tract. It’s released into your blood circulation and absorbed by platelets. Only about 10% is produced in your brain. I educate on this very information during my healthcare visits with my clients.

The key elements of health include: diet, exercise, adequate hydration with a good water (avoiding additives in some waters), and sleep. I can’t speak enough about these vital life elements. I will be addressing these vital elements in future posts.

If you want to be healthy mentally and physically, which are a direct reflection of each other, only put things into your body that will enhance your health. We are what we eat! To be healthy, make healthy choices (more on this to come as well).

Open the Gate, Open Your Mind! If you believe, what do you have to lose? If you don’t believe, you have everything to lose.

Blessings until next time…
